General Information

BIGNONIA L.; Cydista Miers; Mussatia Bureau ex Baill.

Bejucos, las ramitas teretes a tetragonales, sin campos glandulares interpeciolares, pseudoestípulas foliáceas o ausentes. Hojas mayormente 2-folioladas, a veces con 1 zarcillo simple. Inflorescencia un racimo axilar o terminal o una panícula de pocas flores; cáliz cupular, truncado o irregular y levemente bilabiado; corola blanca a rojo purpúrea, tubular-infundibuliforme, algo lepidota y a veces inconspicuamente puberulenta por fuera; tecas divaricadas; ovario angostamente cilíndrico, lepidoto o ligeramente puberulento; disco ausente. Cápsula linear a angostamente oblonga, comprimida paralela al septo, la línea central no evidente; semillas planas, 2-aladas, alas delgadas, cafés.

    "Cal-tube cupulate, the lobes blunt, short, irregular or nearly obsolete; cor-tube widely tubular above a narrow base, the limb only slightly bilabiate; stamens 4, paired, shorter than the cor-tube; fr elongate, linear, flattened parallel to the partition, septicidal; seeds flat, broadly winged at each side; woody vine with 2-foliolate lvs terminated by a branched tendril that clings by terminal adhesive disks; vascular bundles forming a cross in cross-section of the stem; fls yellow, long-pediceled in sessile axillary cymes. Monospecific."
