Diagnostic Description

In general, this subspecies can be distinguished from the typical subspecies by its concave, mucronate leaves and the foliation.

    Morphology

    Plants 5.5-15.0 cm long. Stems and branches with leaves 1.3-2.5 mm wide. Rhizoids rough, verrucate. Stem leaves generally concave, 1.24-(1.42)-1.60 mm long x 0.48-(0.53)-0.60 mm wide, mostly mucronate, sometimes short-cuspidate; costae short, 125-270 Ami long; median cells 68-(91)-115 µm long x 2.5-4.0 µm wide; upper cells 28-(39)-55 µm long x 3.0-5.5 µm wide, with walls 1.5-3.0 µm thick. Perichaetial leaves 1.00-1.06 mm long. Vaginular leaves 1.48-1.92 mm long x 0.50-0.68 mm wide. Exostomes generally smooth on ventral surface; basal membrane 200-250 µm high. Spores 11.0-(14.0)-16.5 µm in diameter.

    Habitat

    The subspecies is found growing on rocks, boulders, road banks and sometimes on rotten wood and tree bases. It is particularly abundant in forested areas. In altitude, it ranges from 180 m to 2000 m.
