2. Buxbaumia punctataP.-C. Chen & X.-J. Li   花斑烟杆藓  hua ban yan gan xian Acta Phytotax. Sin. 9(3): 278. Pl. 29. 1964. Type: China. Sichuan, Maerkang Co., on rotten wood, alt. 3300–3500 m, X.-J. Li 1476 (holotype HKAS; isotype MO).   Male plants tiny, ca. 0.15 mm high; leaves nearly ovate, clam-shell-shaped, resting on protonemata; antheridia globose, often solitary. Female plants larger, ca. 0.55 mm high. Leaves broadly ovate or ovate-lanceolate, usually 5–8 leaves per plant, less than 1.0 mm long, thin and soft, hyaline, ciliate at margins; costa none; leaf cells oblong-hexagonal or rounded ovate. Sporophytes 8–15 mm high. Setae stout, rigid, 2.5–5.0 mm long, usually straight, or slightly curved, reddish brown, densely papillose, with rhizoids at the base; capsules brown to reddish brown, oblong-ovoid, obliquely inclined, 4.0–8.5 mm × 1.0–2.7 mm, asymmetric, distinctly differentiated into dorsal and ventral sides, rather flat and with reddish brown spots on the dorsal surface, neck short, stomata present; opercula bluntly conic; annuli differentiated; peristome double; exostome teeth short, reduced; endostome membrane-like, whitish, 16-plicate, pleated cone-shaped, papillose. Calyptrae small, only covering the top of the operculum. Spores spherical, 5–9 µm in diameter, minutely papillose.
