Plants slender or rather robust, green or brownish green, somewhat glossy. Stems prostrate, irregularly branched, with erect or ascending branches; stem elliptical in cross section; cortical cells thick-walled, in 2–3 layers; central strand present. Stem and branch leaves similar, erect or slightly secund, 1.7–2.2 mm × 2.5–3.8 mm, ovate at base, gradually acuminate at apex, somewhat decurrent at base; margins plane, serrulate above, marginal borders differentiated by linear cells, in 5–8 rows, 3–5-stratose; costae single, thick, percurrent or excurrent; median leaf cells linear-rhomboidal, 20–70 mm × 4–10 mm, thin-walled; alar cells hexagonal, inflated. Sporophytes not seen.
