Male flowers: staminal tube pink, up to 1 mm tall, separate from and surrounding the pistillode style; anthers white, sessile, 1–3-seriate below the papillate fringe of the umbrella-like pistillode apex; disk white, annular, fleshy, 4–6-angled.
Female flowers: ovules numerous, parietal, oblong-ovoid; style to 0.75 mm long, conical; stigmatic surface hemispherical; disk 5–6 angled, slightly concave.
Involucral bracts 2–2.5 ? 2.5–3.0 mm, oblong to rotund, imbricate, persistent.
Perianth in 2 whorls of 5–6 segments per whorl; perianth segments purple-red, 1–3.5 ? 1.5–2.5 mm, ovate to sub-orbicular or oblong-obovate, obtuse to rounded at the apex, ± fleshy, thickened.
Small internal parasites of trees of Berlinia, Brachystegia, Isoberlinia and Julbernardia spp., vegetatively much reduced, appearing only as flowers emerging on the smaller branches of the host, pushing through the host’s bark.
