Deciduous forest tree up to 45 m. high; crown spreading; bole twisted near the top; buttresses small, blunt or none; bark thick; branches stout and somewhat angled; slash pink to red with vertical white lines, scented.
Leaves tufted at the ends of the branches, imparipinnate, 30–60 cm. long; leaflets 11–21, 5–11 cm. long, 1.5–4 cm. broad, opposite or subopposite, ovate-lanceolate, apex gradually acuminate, generally unequal rounded at the base, pubescent on both surfaces, margin entire, reddish brown or purplish when young, lateral nerves numerous and parallel, petiolules 1–3 mm. long.
Drupe depressed-globose, 5-sided, ± 4.5 cm. in diameter, strong-smelling with hard several-seeded endocarp.
Inflorescences of axillary panicles 10–15(25) cm. long.
