Annual with slender taproot, 20–30 cm. tall, simple or with a few long divergent branches from near the base, quite glabrous except for the lanate inflorescence-axis; stem and branches very slender, terete, striate.
Filaments very slender, subulate, ± 1.75 mm.; pseudostaminodes ± 0.75 mm., oblong, expanded and fimbriate at the apex.
Capsule and ripe seed not known.
Leaves all filiform, 15–55 × 0.5–1 mm., mucronate at the apex, margins and back of nerve slightly scabrid.
Peduncles long and very slender, 2–13 cm., striate.
Inflorescence at first capitate, finally shortly cylindrical, 0.6–1 × 0.4 cm.; bracts deltoid-ovate, persistent, patent, ± 1.25 mm., glabrous, rather blunt, with a greenish central vitta and broad hyaline margins, the slender nerve reaching to the apex but scarcely excurrent in a mucro; bracteoles similar, closely appressed to the perianth.
Perianth somewhat pyriform, narrowed about the middle; outer 2 tepals ovate, very concave, hooded above, ± 2 × 1 mm., feebly 3-nerved with the midrib almost attaining the apex but not excurrent in a distinct mucro, green-vittate centrally with a hyaline border widening from the middle downwards; middle tepal slightly narrower, otherwise similar; inner 2 lanceolate-oblong, abruptly narrowed to the tip, ± 0.5 mm. wide, lateral nerves not obvious, hyaline margin wider.
