Morphology

Slender herb, up to 500 mm tall. Leaves discolor-ous, undersurface whitish tomentose. Inflorescence a spike, up to 240 mm, lower flowers reclined. Flowers 2.5-3.0 mm long. Flowers greenish white.

Leaves with blade elliptic, size variable, ± 60 x 35 mm, long-acuminate, margins entire, discolorous, upper surface green, lower surface silvery canescent, at least when young. Flowers: in a terminal spike, up to 240 mm long; lower flowers reclined; perianth 3-5 mm long, greenish white; Dec.-May. Fruit silvery green, bracteoles with stellate spines.
